REMEDIOS AQUINO CHUI

Wife of 60 years.

Mother of 9 children.

Lola of 18 grandchildren and great grandmother of two.

Entrepreneur of multiple businesses in the Philippines and the United States.

Remedios Aquino Chui led a vibrant and meaningful life. She was a visionary beyond her time, fearless and focused on elevating herself and her family by working endless hours and sharing the generosity of her heart. Her almost 80 years on earth was filled with extraordinary challenges and equal triumphs that sent ripples of change and better opportunities for the future of her family and surrounding community.

Born on January 17, 1942 in Bolinao, Pangasinan, she was the 3rd child of Felix and Maria Aquino. Her siblings from eldest to youngest include Fedelina, Merofe, Manuel, Amadeo, Miguel, and Freda. Their ancestral line lived off the Philippine landscape, consisting of farmers and fishermen that provided a humble yet proud sustenance for earlier generations. Although Remedios excelled academically, she had to leave school after the 5th grade to work and support her parents.

Determined for a higher standard of livelihood, Remedios eloped with Noly Chui during their early 20’s and moved to Manila, Philippines. Eager to build a life together and motivated by pure ambition, they worked tirelessly on meager earnings to save enough money to eventually open several successful business endeavors: a dress shop, party supply rental company, and a restaurant. Over a period of 20 years, they also raised 8 children: Marlyn, Renolito, Ruth, Manny, Felix, Lorna, Miriam, and Noly Jr.

On June 5, 1982, Remedios and Noly immigrated to the United States to start a new life in a new country, and within their first year conceived their 9th child, Dianne. Remedios juggled several careers from sales to being a seamstress, often working multiple jobs at once while raising her children with utmost determination and grace. She enjoyed a fulfilling existence, singing and dancing every chance available, growing opulent gardens, traveling the world, and cooking delicious meals for family gatherings. Although multi-talented and blessed with many gifts, her ultimate favorite activity was sewing, which allowed her to design and create elegant dresses, tapestries, costumes, and embroideries, beautifying everyone and everything she touched.

Remedios Aquino Chui inspired and transformed the lives of countless individuals along her journey. She is survived by her loving husband and 9 children, a remarkable legacy that will continue to honor and celebrate her for the rest of eternity.
